the law week blood drive
Donate blood during May 2010 as part of the Law Week Blood Drive. The Law Society of NSW and the Department of Justice and Attorney General are encouraging lawyers to roll up their sleeves to help the Australian community which requires over 26,000 blood donations each week. One in three people will need blood during their lifetime, but only one in thirty currently donates.
Firms can join the Blood Service's Corporate blood donation program Club Red Online to track their firm's donations as part of their corporate social responsibility and also as a friendly rivalry against other firms. At the end of May the Blood Service will announce the inaugural Law Week Blood Drive title to the firm which shows the greatest participation and effort.
During Law Week the Blood Service will be present at Martin Place to help city firms get involved. Visit donateblood.com.au or call 131495 to identify your nearest centre. To express interest in participating in the Law Week Blood Drive you can contact Aletheia Hunn, e-mail: ahunn@arcbs.redcross.org.au

Lawyers and Law Week
Why should you get involved in Law Week?
Law Week provides legal professionals throughout NSW with an occasion to participate in leadership and advocacy programs that help to educate the public about the law. It is a week-long campaign that attracts widespread national media coverage. It provides numerous learning opportunities for both the community at large and the legal profession in what is generally considered to be one of the best legal community education programs offered annually.
volunteer your time
During Law Week there is a huge demand for volunteer lawyers and barristers to donate their specialised legal expertise and knowledge by providing pro bono talks to community groups, libraries and schools on a wide variety of legal topics.
Feedback from practitioners who have participated in Law Week programs have reported that the experience is extremely worthwhile. For many, it has expanded networks, assisted in identifying business development opportunities and provided an informal yet valuable avenue for improving public speaking skills.
The one to one contact with legal professionals participating in Law Week programs provide the public with a view of the legal profession that is caring and willing to contribute to their community as well as giving lawyers and barristers immense satisfaction in being able to contribute their specialised knowledge to assist their local community.
